Maine is known world-wide for its Lobster. The Lobsters caught in the cold, nutrient-rich waters off Mt. Desert Island are the most succulent to be found along the entire coastline! In spite of the fact that early settlers often rebelled at having to eat Lobster all the time, our visitors today can't seem to get enough of them. The Restaurants listed below are only minutes from the Campground. Most serve "Land-Lubber" dishes also, but Lobster is King! |
Sea Food Ketch Located next to a working wharf about a mile west of the Campground on Bass Harbor. The Lobsters served here were probably caught early this morning and delivered to the Lobster Pound on wharf! Informal, indoor or outdoor dining. Lunch & Dinner. |
Thurston's A short drive around the end of Bass Harbor brings you to Bernard and the yellow-topped Thurston's Restaurant. Directly across the Harbor from The Sea Food Ketch, it is the another place to find fresh Lobster direct from the sea! Informal dining in a screened-in area on a wharf. Lunch & Dinner |
Main-ly Delights Located across from the Swan's Island Ferry slip, This is the place to get a Crab Roll Take Out or complete Lobster Dinner! Famous for "Oh Boy Dough Boys." Informal, a few inside tables and a few more on the deck. Lunch, Dinner |

In addition to these fine places in and near Bass Harbor, there are soft drinks, coffee, ice cream, etc. available in the Campground Store. Of course, there are many other fine restaurants all over Mt. Desert Island. A menu guide and directions are available in the Campground Office. |
